This Episode of Higher Ed Coffee and Conversation features two special guests, Dr. Nora Kenney, coordinator of Palomar College’s Transition Program and Santos Rosado, a student who paroled in March of 2020. Transitions is a “Corrections to College” Program that helps previously incarcerated individuals adjust to a college campus and successfully begin or resume their higher educations.
We have a great conversation around the stigmas, challenges and transitions incarcerated students face as they go from prison to community college. We also talk about ways in which colleges can share student stories and help break down those stigmas. Not only do the formerly incarcerated benefit but everyone on campus can benefit from the experiences they bring to community college.
