Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC), located in Boston, Massachusetts, is the largest community college in Massachusetts, with more than 19,000 students enrolled annually. BHCC, founded in 1973, is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
Bunker Hill Community College had not updated its website for eight years. During that time, the homepage and the college’s most popular pages became bloated with unnecessary information, which negatively impacted the user navigational journey. The college needed a streamlined navigational structure and updated design with more emphasis placed on the college’s unique location in Boston and its large international student population.
GradComm first reimagined the website by taking a fresh approach to its navigation, shifting the structure from long lists of drop-down items to an audience-centered experience. We then redesigned the homepage in a way that puts the potential student journey first, better showcases the college brand, and puts a spotlight on its popular mascot. We designed secondary page templates and built out the design for the college’s Workforce Development pages.
Graduate Communications conducted research including interviews, focus groups, a website usability survey, an analytics audit, and audits of seven competitive websites. From there, we developed implications and opportunities and a list of immediate recommendations.
Once those were approved, we provided a new navigational structure, redesigned the homepage, provided secondary page templates, and assisted the college with copywriting services.
