Founded in 1955, Cerritos College is a Los Angeles County community college that offers comprehensive, high-quality, affordable education and career training. The college is recognized as a model in the state for its efforts around diversity, equity, and inclusion.
As the college reviewed its Student Equity Plan, they felt they could be more intentional about outreaching to specific disproportionately impacted groups and talking about their DEI efforts, internally and with the public. Moreover, they wanted their marketing efforts to showcase the tremendous value Cerritos College places on being a safe and welcoming place for students of all ethnicities, backgrounds, beliefs, abilities, and identities.
Creation of a multi-platform campaign that communicates the college’s pledge to inclusivity. The campaign has effectively served advertisements and emails to the college’s Latinx, APIDA, and African-American communities, resulting in more than 1,000 visits to the website.
Graduate Communications and Cerritos College performed an audit of the college’s DEI messaging and efforts, conducted focus groups with students and faculty, and identified common language that can be used to talk about DEI efforts.
From there, GradComm recommended several strong initiatives that weaved the college’s DEI commitment into their communications, including a common website; social media and email campaigns; and a variety of print materials including flyers and brochures that can be used for direct outreach.
