James Clifton is a quantitative research methodologist and institutional researcher whose work bridges rigorous statistical design and real-world decision-making in higher education.
He holds doctoral-level training in quantitative psychology from the University of California, Merced, with deep specializations in Bayesian statistics, multilevel modeling, and structural equation modeling, alongside a master’s degree in psychology from Cal Poly Humboldt. His research on Bayesian methods has been published in journals including Health Psychology Review, the Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, and Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal.
Since 2017, James has served as a Research Analyst in the Office of Research, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness at MiraCosta College, where he leads Career Education research and program analysis. His work spans study design, quantitative analysis, data infrastructure, and policy reporting, including original simulation studies, survey methodology research, and student outcomes analysis. He has extensive experience with large-scale national longitudinal datasets.
